Every year, the Southern California Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church supports the students of Westminster with a Thanksgiving food drive. The food drive is organized in conjuction with the Westminster Student Association (WSA) and is meant to help supplement students' food budgets during the holidays. Canned goods, holiday spices, cereals and desserts are all donated from local OPCs and brought to the student lounge the week of Thanksgiving. Students can sign up to receive a turkey as well!
“Many of our students work hard outside of the classroom to provide for their families and continue to study here at Westminster Seminary,” says current WSA president Jose Ovalle. “The food drive is a massive gift because it gives students the ability the celebrate Thanksgiving in a manner that is free from the financial stress that the holidays entail. Additionally, the abundance of food provided to our students allows them to open up their homes to one another during this time, increasing the fellowship between students that oftentimes leads to lifelong friendships. We are exceedingly thankful for our brothers and sisters in the OPC.”
The external support WSCAL receives in the lifting up and encouragement of its students from churches and individuals alike remains a blessing for which we thank the Lord.
