Summer Elective A Profitable Opportunity For Alumni

Dr. D. G. Hart's elective on Roman Catholics in America wrapped up last week, commencing the return to the classroom for students this Fall. The course was open to students, alumni and auditing community members, and was well-attended both in person and online. Alumni, especially, took advantage of the opportunity to “return to the classroom,” with 60 registered to audit Hart's course.

WSCAL alumnus Mason Depew said he was grateful to be able to take the elective.

“The class has been good,” said Depew. “It helps me understand some of the differences between various groups of Roman Catholics in the US and Europe.”

Although electives are offered to students to help them fill degree requirements, they are a great resource for alumni of the school as well. Depew, who graduated in 2021, said he found the opportunity to return to WSCAL for the class to be a good one.

“I've read articles and books by Dr Hart but never heard him lecture,” said Depew. “I'm very grateful to the school for letting me do this and it's great to see the familiar classroom, as well as some familiar names (on Zoom) and voices (in the classroom). It makes me very nostalgic.”

WSCAL alumni are able to obtain a Listener's Pass for free to audit courses offered throughout the year, and several of the summer and winter electives offer online options, allowing those dispersed around the country and the globe to continue benefiting from the rich well of learning and instruction provided by WSCAL faculty and visiting professors.
