Our words are a window into our hearts and what occupies and preoccupies our minds and feelings. Wise words are honest, few, calm, and apt.

Jesus engages in our grief and promises victory over the grave. 

Wisdom reminds us that when we approach God in prayer and worship that our words should be few; since, our foolish tendency is to multiply words instead of trusting in the perfect and sufficient words of Christ.

The wisdom literature of the Bible exists primarily in the Hebrew Scriptures but the New Testament capitalizes on the wisdom literature and in Colossians 2:23 and 3:16 the Apostle Paul applies basic themes and structure from the wisdom literature to the Christian doctrine and practice of worship.

As Paul struggles with the realities of unbelief and opposition to his work, he resolves his anguish by contemplating the being of God. We may resolve our discouragements by meditating on the Triune God.

To be happy in this life it's not enough to just do the standard things; we nust consider the work of God.

In this passage, Paul would have us realize that even truth, that is true knowledge, becomes folly if it is employed to accopmplish an end for which it is not adapted.

As Christians, Jesus has given us everything we need for life and godliness. 

 In our task of theological education and preparation for the ministry we often sense a feeling of need, a desire for more.  

Through this experiential saying on hope and the heart, we gain understanding into our nature as humans, helping us to live rightly as God's redeemed people in this world.

A closer look at Jude’s exhortation. He exhorts us to “keep” ourselves in the love of God, but all the while God is the one who “keeps” us. Our contending comes within the context of his keeping. We persevere because he preserves.

How much does the world influence how we respond to personal attacks and vitriol? Wisdom literature provides us with an infrequently tried response, namely, silence.
