God’s grace, through the cross of Christ, unmasks us. The cross exposes our guilty secrets and the condemnation and lethal punishment that we deserve, leaving us nowhere to hide to preserve our “image.”  

As we celebrate the birth of the Protestant Reformation, 500 years ago this fall, that we will meditate on Galatians, which Luther called “my Katie von Bora,” in six Morning Devotions over the semester.

As Christians, Jesus has given us everything we need for life and godliness. 

 Dr. Eswine exposited Ecclesiastes 9:13-16. First, we must learn to come alongside our congregation and show care and love for them in God’s grace as we apply the wisdom we learn from His creation and providence as Jesus exemplified. Secondly, we are called to become wise men ourselves and be content with being small and insignificant in the eyes of the world but known and loved by God.

The Lord gives to his church “mercy servants,” whose deeds of compassion complement the gospel witness of his “Word servants.”

We often think of the struggles of ministry.  The Apostle Paul certainly had many. But we in ministry can be greatly encouraged by Eph 3:7 where Paul uses the word “grace” to describe the “blessing” that was given to him to preach the gospel to the nations.

 God makes faithful ministers through prayer, study, and suffering. Over the years he purposes to diminish our self-confidence and bring us into greater dependence on grace. The ever increasing discovery of our weakness makes us increasingly effective shepherds of God's flock.

We were reminded by Paul that all our sufferings – insults, slanders, hardship, persecutions and difficulties – if suffered for Christ’s sake become the perfect opportunity (as weakness) for the manifestation of Christ’s glory.  And for that reason, “his grace is sufficient for you”.

Paul calls us to repentance and to demonstrate gratitude for the reconciliation that we have in Jesus Christ.

With Moses, the last word is a word of grace.
