Master of Arts in Historical Theology

Class of 2004

What work or ministries have you been involved with since graduation?

Immediately after earning my MA in Historical Theology, I served as Business Manager for the White Horse Inn/Modern Reformation when the organization relocated to Escondido. In 2005, I left to pursue a PhD in History at Saint Louis University. My goal was to teach American history at the undergraduate level, but I jumped at the opportunity to return to Westminster to serve as Vice President of Administration in 2013. In addition to my administrative duties, I also did some teaching at the seminary in church history and research/writing. After having the great honor of serving this role at my alma mater for more than a decade, in early 2024 I will begin serving as Vice President of Operations at a community college outside of Dallas, Texas.

Have you pursued/completed further education since graduation? If so, where?

I earned my PhD in History from Saint Louis University in 2012.

How has your seminary education been valuable in your current vocation (or any vocation since graduation)? Has it been valuable in ways you weren’t expecting?

My seminary training prepared me very well in my academic pursuits, ranging from academic research and writing (journal articles and dissertation), conference presentations, and teaching in various higher education contexts. More important than this academic training, however, was the spiritual formation I experienced at WSC. This has prepared me well for my role in higher ed administration in leading with humility, integrity, and caring for others sincerely. While I have much room to grow in all of these areas, WSC set me on the right path in this direction.

What would you say to someone who is currently considering seminary education at WSC?

I do not know many (if any) people who regret going to seminary. And if you are going to attend seminary, why not attend the best seminary in the world? I would especially encourage prospective students considering pastoral ministry to attend WSC. I am not aware of another seminary that blends academic rigor, an emphasis on biblical languages, fidelity to the Bible and the Reformed confessions, and spiritual formation through mentorship and a vibrant community as effectively as Westminster Seminary California. Thankfully, WSC is not the only good seminary option available to prospective students; but I am absolutely convinced that it is the best.
