The seven servants were qualified to care for widows’ material needs because Christ’s church discerned that they were “full of the Spirit and wisdom.” Here we glimpse the outworking of Christ’s outpouring of his Spirit at Pentecost on all his people, male and female, young and old, empowering every member of his church to serve in the strength of his Holy Spirit. We who are called to minister God’s Word in the strength of Christ’s Spirit must honor and enhance the diverse ministries that our brothers and sisters fulfill, since they serve in the strength of this same Spirit of God.
