Breaking Ground on New Residential Building

Westminster Seminary California gratefully announces the commencement of construction on a new residential building in Westminster Village, WSC’s on-campus student housing community. Construction began in July and is expected to be completed in May 2023. This schedule would make the new residential units available for incoming and returning students at the beginning of the summer 2023. The dream of on-campus student housing goes back to the founders of WSC, including Dr. Robert G. den Dulk. WSC students, faculty, and staff are incredibly thankful for its many supporters for helping this dream become a reality.

The original village project opened to students in 2018. Now, the village is comprised of 8 residential buildings and a community “Commons” building. There are 2 one-bedroom buildings, 3 two-bedroom buildings, and 3 three-bedroom buildings. Each building contains 8 units, totaling 64 apartment-style units in the village. The new building will add 8 three-bedroom units to the village, bringing the total to 72 units, 32 of which will be three bedrooms. The three-bedroom apartments provide the greatest flexibility since they can house large families or several single students.

During construction of the original village project, the seminary prepared an extra building pad in anticipation of adding another residential building in the future. In God’s providence, WSC students need this additional building sooner than expected. Last spring, the village remained at full capacity, housing nearly 70 percent of the WSC student body, as well as spouses and children. In addition to demand, more affordable on-campus housing is necessary due to dramatically increasing rental rates around the country, especially in Southern California. The addition of this building will allow more students to live on campus at rates far below the public market while enjoying the intimate village community.
