On June 1st, 2024, eighteen students graduated from Westminster Seminary California at the seminary’s 43rd annual commencement ceremony. Thirteen of these graduates received the degree Master of Divinity, while five received a Master of Arts in one or more of several concentrations (Biblical Studies, Theological Studies, Historical Theology). The ceremony took place at the United Reformed Church of Escondido, CA.
The Reverend Johnathan Moersch (MDiv, WSC 2008), Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church (OPC) in Capistrano Beach, CA, delivered the invocation. The Reverend Anthony George (MA Biblical Studies, Criswell College), who is the father of one of the graduates and the Founder and President of Lanka Ministries International, read Scripture (Mark 14:3–9). And the Reverend Steve Oeverman (MDiv, WSC 2004), Minister of Word and Sacraments at Grace United Reformed Church in Portland, OR, and a member of WSC’s Board of Trustees, offered a prayer for the graduates. The commencement address, titled “Why Would You Waste Your Life?” was delivered by the Reverend Sung-Il Steve Park (MAR, WSC 1988; MDiv & PhD, WTS), the Senior Pastor of Jubilee Presbyterian Church (KAPC) in West Norriton, PA.
The graduates are dispersing to serve in various churches, primarily in the western part of the US, to pursue further study (as far away as Oxford, England), or to work in other ministry-related capacities. With the addition of these eighteen graduates, the seminary’s alumni now number more than 1250 since the first degrees were awarded in 1982. Please thank the Lord with us for these newest laborers in the harvest!
