A quotation from Psalm 104:4 identifies the angels as the Son's creatures (“he makes”) who are his servants. Psalm 104 portrays the visible display of stormy winds and lightning, obeying God's providential direction. But the wider context in the Book of Psalms (Psalm 103:20-22) gives the author of Hebrews grounds for linking the visible storm with the invisible servant-spirits sent by God to bring his Word to humanity. The next two quotations (from Psalms 45 and 102) will focus on the Son's glory as eternal ruler and unchangeable creator–in contrast to angels and all the rest of creation, called to serve and subject to change. Our hopes and lives can only rest secure in Jesus Christ the Son, who is “the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8).
