Fall 2017 Semester Kick-off

On August 30, 2017, the incoming class for the 2017-2018 academic year was officially welcomed to the Westminster Seminary California community during New Student Orientation, an annual fall event designed to acclimate students to academic policies and student life. The Orientation began with a devotional address by President Joel Kim, and was followed by presentations from the Academic Dean, Dean of Students and Enrollment department. The morning event concluded with a lunch for the new students with faculty and staff.

That evening, new students, faculty, and staff reconvened, accompanied by spouses and family members, for the New Student Reception—an annual highlight where students are given the opportunity to introduce themselves and share what led them to Westminster Seminary California and what they hope to do upon completing their seminary education. After the introductions, refreshments were served and the students and their families were able to fellowship with each other, as well as the WSC faculty and staff.  The 37 new students came from nine U.S. states and represent a variety of denominations, including the PCA, OPC, URCNA, CRC, and KAPC.

The 2017-2018 academic year was officially kicked off with an Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 31 at 10am in the WSC Chapel. President Joel Kim delivered his first convocation address from John 3:22-30, entitled “Becoming Less”. Students and staff then joined in fellowship over coffee and donuts provided by the WSC Student Association before heading back to class.
